Our client, Australian Wool Innovation (AWI), developed the concept of clamping the breech skin fold on sheep with a clip to replicate the effect of traditional mulesing. Mulesing is the practice of removing this skin fold to reduce the risk of flystrike which leads to a slow agonising death for the sheep. AWI commissioned us to develop a cheap biodegradable plastic clip, a clip applicator and a dispensing system to make the application of the clips as efficient as possible. This system has now been used in trials and has performed beyond expectations. For further information download the datasheet below. We have also assisted AWI with an alternative technology which involves injecting the breech area using a needle-less injector. With varying thickness of wool and tough field conditions the design of a suitable injector was a challenge but our prototype has proven to be very effective in trials.
