We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with higher-level tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a similar related discipline. Additional qualifications in complementary areas would be well regarded.

• Experience in a detail design role.
• Proven ability to effectively handle sophisticated and complex design tasks.
• A good understanding of GTOL principles.
• A good understanding of mechatronic principles.
• A good understanding of how a commercially based design and development company operates.
• An understanding of Quality Assurance principles.
• High level of computer literacy.
• Good analytical skills.
• Practical “hands on” approach.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and principles will be highly regarded.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work as part of a team and to relate well to people at all levels.
• Ambition coupled with initiative and strong personal drive.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm and energy to achieve positive outcomes.

Job specification:

• Performance of key, high level engineering analysis and design activities in a diverse range of mechanical and mechatronic design projects.
• Performance of analysis and design optimisation from first principles, including dynamics of mechanisms, control systems, structural design, energy conversion systems, hydraulic systems, electro-optics, material selection and manufacturing technologies.
• Participation in concept generation “brainstorming” sessions and generation of concepts to meet system requirements specifications.
• Performance of system requirement reviews and generating system specifications.
• 3D CAD modelling and analysis of parts and assemblies of complex systems using CAD and FEA tools.
• Detail design, including generation of manufacturing drawings.
• Analysis and design activities to support the design process.
• Research and testing to support the design and development process.
• Set to work and testing of prototypes.
• Liaison with manufacturers to assist in getting designs production ready.
• Preparation of technical reports, specifically for consulting projects such as design reviews, investigations of failures, concept design, feasibility studies and stress analysis.
• Management of small projects to meet quality, timing and budget targets, and regular reporting of progress to the client.
