Due to some new projects starting soon, the role of Senior Design Engineer has become available for a person having the ability to handle sophisticated engineering design and analysis work in a competitive commercial environment.

Reporting to the Technical Director, your role will involve:

  • Performing key, high level engineering analysis and design activities in a diverse range of mechanical, mechatronic and electronic design projects;
  • Performing analysis and design optimisation from first principles, including dynamics of mechanisms, control systems, structural design, energy conversion systems, hydraulic systems, electro-optics, material selection and manufacturing technologies;
  • Hands-on work including CAD, FEA, prototype testing and field trials;
  • Generating design concepts, capturing intellectual property and managing appropriate IP protection activities;
  • Performing system requirement reviews and generating system specifications;
  • Managing the key technical project stage gates such as system requirement reviews, design reviews and prototype testing;
  • Preparing technical reports, specifically for consulting projects such as design reviews, investigations of failures, concept design, feasibility studies and stress analysis;

The successful applicant will have:

  • Higher level tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline;
  • Extensive technical design experience in a commercial R&D environment (although exceptional recent graduates with aspirations to fill this role are also encouraged to apply);
  • Above average CAD and FEA skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • A proven track record working effectively as part of a team;
  • A valid visa for work in Australia or be an Australian citizen;
  • Exceptional and demonstrable level of mechanical aptitude.
